Texas A&M-Corpus Christi’s Stelling, Murray, Nicholls’ Andre earn Week 3 Women's Soccer Players of the Week accolades

FRISCO, Texas – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi’s Maggie Murray and Kennedy Stelling, and Nicholls’ Lauren Andre are the winners of this week’s Jersey Mike’s Southland Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Week awards, as announced by the conference office Tuesday.

Goalkeeper of the Week: Kennedy Stelling, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi – Sr. – Rowlett, TX. (Rowlett High School)
Stelling played every minute of the Islanders’ unbeaten weekend. Her goalkeeping excellence helped the Islanders to a shutout victory of Prairie View A&M on Friday, before also earning an impressive draw on the road at Sam Houston. Stelling’s clean sheet against the Panthers contained four saves, before another six were made against the Bearkats on Sunday, for a total of 10 across the weekend. The shutout victory against Prairie View-A&M was the Stelling’s second of the season, following the season-opening clean sheet win against Texas Southern.

Defensive Player of the Week: Lauren Andre, Nicholls – Jr. – Houma, La, (Vandebilt Catholic High School)
Andre scored three goals during the Colonels’ home stand this past weekend, including two direct free kicks, which helped Nicholls earn their first victory of the 2023 season. Remarkably, Andre’s goal against Jackson State on Friday was her first collegiate goal, before she added another two against Texas Southern on Sunday. The Colonels defeated Texas Southern 4-1 in that match, with Andre contributing at both ends of the pitch to ensure the victory.
Honorable Mention: Rachel Loetzer, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi

Offensive Player of the Week: Maggie Murray, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi – Sr. – Cranford, NJ. (Cranford High School)
Murray tallied two goals and two assists in two games on the road this weekend. Her offensive output helped the Islanders to their 1-0-1 record. Murray scored two goals and had one assist in the dominant 6-0 win at Prairie View A&M, before adding another assist in the impressive 2-2 draw at Sam Houston. These four goal involvements were Murray’s first of the season, with her two assists already tying her career high for a single season.
