Tyson of A&M-Corpus Christi and McNeill of Nicholls win Jersey Mike's SLC Softball Players of the Week awards

FRISCO, Texas – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Taniece Tyson and Nicholls' Audrey McNeill are this week's winners of the Jersey Mike's Southland Conference Softball Player of the Week awards, as announced by the conference office on Monday. Tyson is the first Islander to win player of the week honors this season, whilst McNeill is the first player to win the award twice so far this season.

Hitter of the Week: Taniece Tyson, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi - Sr. - UTL - Lancaster, Texas (Red Oak HS)
Opening the conference slate with a dominant performance, Tyson batted an impressive .700 through the series after going 7-of-10 from the plate in the Islanders' sweep of A&M-Commerce. It included two doubles and two-run home runs to aid in her three-RBI total. Tyson slugged a 1.200 and posted a .700 on-base percentage after totaling 12 bases over the weekend.

Pitcher of the Week: Audrey McNeill, Nicholls - Sr. - RHP - Plano, Texas (Plano Senior HS)
McNeill threw two shutouts in the Colonels' sweep at Northwestern State, allowing a combined five hits while striking out 16 batters. McNeill tossed a two-hitter in the 5-0 victory to clinch the series, racking up a career-high nine strikeouts while also retiring 16 consecutive batters. She was just as dominant in the finale, fanning seven batters while giving up three hits. The sweep in Natchitoches was the first for the Colonels since 2008.
