Southeastern's Johnson and McNeese's Sanders pick up Jersey Mike's SLC Softball Players of the Week awards

FRISCO, Texas – Southeastern's Lexi Johnson and McNeese's Shaelyn Sanders are this week's winners of the Jersey Mike's Southland Conference Softball Player of the Week awards, as announced by the conference office on Monday. Johnson is the third Lion hitter to win player of the week honors this season, whilst Sanders is the first Cowgirl recognized this season.

Hitter of the Week: Lexi Johnson, Southeastern - Sr. - 1B - Reserve, La. (Riverside Academy)
Johnson was SLU's top hitter in an SLC series sweep of Texas A&M-Commerce. The senior hit .778 with six runs, seven RBI, a home run, a 1.222 slugging percentage, a .727 on-base percentage and a 1.949 OPS. Johnson was part of a SLU roster that hit .489 across the weekend that saw Southeastern outscore the Lions, 45-1, on the way to its 11th consecutive SLC series win.

Pitcher of the Week: Shaelyn Sanders, McNeese - Sr. - RHP - Splendora, Texas (Blinn JC)
Sanders posted a 2-1 record, allowed three hits, with two one-hitters, one shutout, a 0.97 ERA with 19 strikeouts in three complete games and 21.2 innings pitched. Her wins came in the SLC series against Nicholls that included her two-one hitters, with a series 0.45 ERA in 15.2 inning and held Nicholls to a 0.60 batting average.
