Southland Football Round Up (Oct. 25, 2025) – Southeastern, Lamar, SFA Earn Road Wins; UTRGV, Nicholls Roll in Homecomings

FRISCO – Southeastern, Lamar, and SFA all took care of business on the road to remain undefeated atop the Southland Standings, while UTRGV and Nicholls returned home with resounding performances. Here’s the Week 9 Rundown.

#19/RV Southeasetern 38, HCU 14
No. 19 Southeastern Louisiana University outscored HCU 24-7 in the second half on the way to a 38-14 Southland Conference road victory Saturday afternoon at Husky Stadium. SLU (6-2, 4-0 SLC) held the host Huskies (2-6, 1-3 SLC) to just 199 total yards — only 47 of which came in the second half — en route to its fourth straight win. A balanced Southeastern attack produced 378 total yards (195 passing, 183 rushing) and controlled possession for more than 37 minutes. The 4-0 start in league play marks the Lions’ first since 2021. Carson Camp (12-for-15, 169 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT) and Kyle Lowe (3-for-10, 26 yards, 1 INT) split time under center for SLU. Jaylon Domingeaux led all receivers with three catches for 89 yards, while Cade Collier hauled in a touchdown pass from Camp. Deantre Jackson led the ground game with 13 carries for 64 yards and a touchdown, and Calvin Smith Jr. added two rushing scores. Defensively, KK Reno paced the Lions with 10 tackles. Reno, Kaleb Proctor, Ahmad Bradley, Evan Aubrey, and Joshua Randall each recorded a sack as Southeastern limited HCU to eight first downs. On special teams, Brandon Hayes returned the second-half kickoff for a touchdown for the second straight week, while Collier recovered a fumble on punt coverage and D’Khai Joseph averaged 18.0 yards per return.

#15/15 Lamar 41, Northwestern State 14
Lamar University racked up 433 yards of total offense on its way to a 41-14 victory at Northwestern State Saturday afternoon at Turpin Stadium. The win was LU’s seventh straight, keeping the Cardinals perfect in conference play at 4-0. Lamar outgained Northwestern State 433-307, rushing for 256 yards while holding the Demons to just 23 on the ground. In his first start since a Week 2 injury, senior Robert Coleman completed 18-of-30 passes for 166 yards and a touchdown to Kyndon Fuselier, connecting with 10 different receivers. Fuselier led the group with seven catches for 70 yards. Senior Xavier Coleman tallied his first career 100-yard rushing game with 12 carries for 101 yards and two touchdowns, while sophomore Joshua Robinson added 18 carries for 78 yards and a score. On defense, senior Brayden Faulkner led the Cardinals with seven total tackles (two solo, one for loss), and Kevin Thomas added three tackles and an interception. The victory marked Lamar’s first back-to-back wins in Natchitoches since the 1959 and 1960 seasons and extended Big Red’s winning streak to seven — the program’s longest since 1971–72. The Cardinals (7-1, 4-0 SLC) are off to their best overall start since 1967 and best conference start since 1960, when they competed in the Lone Star Conference.

Nicholls 31, McNeese 7
Nicholls State University scored 21 unanswered points in the second half and racked up a season-high 464 yards of offense in a 31-7 win over McNeese on Saturday afternoon at Manning Field at John L. Guidry Stadium. The victory snapped a six-game skid for Nicholls (2-6, 2-2 SLC) in its first home appearance in nearly two months and marked the Colonels’ fifth straight win in the series against McNeese (2-6, 1-3 SLC) — a program first. Nicholls did most of its damage on the ground, rushing for 303 yards. Miequle Brock Jr. led the way with 104 yards on 17 carries, while Shane Lee added 72 yards and a touchdown. Making his first career start, quarterback Ean Rodrigue rushed for 77 yards and went 12-for-20 passing for 161 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, Laurence Sullivan Jr. recorded an interception, while Jake Dalmado led the unit with 10 tackles and Marsh added a sack and an interception. Nicholls limited McNeese to 264 total yards and just 11 first downs, while holding the Cowboys to 3-of-10 on third down. The Colonels possessed the ball for 38 minutes and converted a season-best 11-of-16 on third downs. The 303 rushing yards were their most in a conference game since the 2023 home finale against Lamar (349).

#24/24 SFA 31, East Texas A&M 21
Senior wide receiver Kylon Harris set a single-game program record with 16 receptions for 183 yards and two touchdowns as Stephen F. Austin overcame four turnovers to defeat East Texas A&M 31-21 on Saturday night in the Lions’ homecoming game at Memorial Stadium. The win improved SFA to 6-2, while ETAM dropped to 2-6. The ‘Jacks outgained the Lions 452-260 and limited them to just 10 rushing yards. Peace went 18-for-37 for 250 yards with one touchdown and one interception. SFA ran 34 more plays, controlled possession by nearly 15 minutes, and converted 8-of-17 on third downs. Jerrell Wimbley powered the run game with 124 yards on 26 carries (4.6 avg.), finishing with 141 all-purpose yards. Defensively, Aaron Austin, Jaydon Southard, and Aaron Sears each posted seven tackles. Austin, Lowote Jurkin, and Tim Muhammad each recorded a sack, while Ky Thomas and Xavier Potts split another.

RV UTRGV 56, UIW 28
The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) football team stunned defending Southland Conference champion Incarnate Word — an FCS quarterfinalist last season — with a 56-28 victory Saturday at Robert & Janet Vackar Stadium before a sellout Homecoming crowd of 12,649. Among 11 athletic departments that have launched Division I football programs from scratch at the I-AA/FCS level since 1978, UTRGV joins Kennesaw State (2015) as just the second to win six of its first eight games in its inaugural season. Senior Sharyland Pioneer alum Eddie Lee Marburger led the Vaqueros (6-2, 2-2 SLC) with a career-best 26-of-36 passing for 440 yards and six touchdowns, adding another score on the ground. Freshman Tony Diaz set a program record with 17 receptions for 172 yards, while sophomore Xayvion Noland added four catches for 155 yards and two touchdowns. Sophomore Ismael Smith Flores caught two passes for 68 yards — both for touchdowns — and graduate student Nathan Denney added three receptions for 45 yards and a score while rushing 11 times for 59 yards. UIW’s Jalen Walthall paced the Cardinals with 10 catches for 220 yards and two touchdowns.
