Southland Conference Announces 2025 Volleyball All-Conference Teams and Superlative Awards

FRISCO, Texas – The Southland announced its 2025 Volleyball All-Conference teams and superlative awards Wednesday. Regular season co-champion UTRGV tabbed the majority share of the awards, claiming six selections between first and second team along with four of the superlatives.

Head coach Todd Lowery was named the Katrinka Jo Crawford Coach of the Year, leading UTRGV to its first-ever Southland Conference regular-season title. Lowery led a team with nine new players and only three returning starters to a conference championship in the Vaqueros' second year in the league. UTRGV rides a 14-match winning streak heading into the conference tournament with that being the sixth-longest streak in the nation. The Vaqueros powered through the Southland slate with nine sweeps, finishing the regular season 20-7 overall and 15-1 in conference play to win a share of the regular-season title with SFA.

Southeastern’s Kyra McKelvey earned Player of the Year honors. McKelvey leads the Southland in kills per set,  ranking second in both hitting percentage and points per set. She leads the conference with a .354 hitting percentage and stands among the league leaders in kills (4th, 3.72) and points per set (5th, 4.02). McKelvey has three of the top five single-game hitting percentage performances in the Southland this season, including a league-best .833 hitting percentage in a 3-0 win over Nicholls Sept. 27. In conference games, she ranked among the Southland leaders in hitting percentage (.388, 2nd), kills (3.75, 4th) and points (4.02, 7th) per set. She had three matches with 20 or more kills (two in conference play) and 22 double-digit kill performances (12 in SLC action). She was twice named SLC Offensive Player of the Week and also earned first-team All-Conference.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Brooklyn Jaeger and two-time Southland Defensive Player of the Week claimed Libero of the Year. In conference play, Jaeger finished first in digs per set (5.67), total digs (346) and in good pass percentage (63.4) among liberos. She's tallied double-digit digs in every conference match, while climbing the ranks nationally in total digs (9th, 524) and digs per set (7th, 5.19). Jaeger is also a member of first-team All-Conference.

UTRGV's Isabella Costantini repeated as the conference's Setter of the Year. The three-time setter of the week leads the SLC in total assists, assists per set, aces and aces per set in conference play; averaging 11.62 assists/set while facilitating the conference’s deepest and most efficient offense which is hitting a .309 in league play with a league-best 14.50 kills per set. Costantini's 39 aces contributed to the Vaqueros' total of 118 aces, the highest total of all teams in the conference. She ranks among the best in the nation in total assists, assists/set, total aces and aces/set, sitting in the top 20 in all categories. She averaged 2.41 digs/set in conference play with 44 kills and 25 blocks, with six double-doubles in SLC matches.

Teammate Martina Franco has been named the Southland Conference Newcomer of the Year. Franco transferred from UTSA and helped lead the UTRGV offense, averaging 3.47 kills/set in SLC play and scored 4.13 points/set (6th in SLC), swinging from the outside and back row consistently and efficiently. She is ranked seventh in the conference in kills/set and hit .296 in Southland contests. She tallied five double-doubles in 12 conference matches and tabbed 20 or more kills in two of those efforts.

UTRGV's Dimitra Nanou earned Freshman of the Year, leading UTRGV with 3.47 kills/set in conference play with a .280 hitting percentage while taking 8.82 attempts per set. The freshman from Kozani, Greece, ranks seventh in the SLC for kills/set in conference matches. She played in all 16 matches and scored a team-high 4.16 points per set, which is the fifth best in the conference, as she contributed in every area: totaling 191 kills, 30 aces and 13 blocks. Nanou is second in the conference with 30 aces in SLC play, only behind teammate Costantini. Nanou also tabbed five conference double-doubles while surpassing 20 kills twice and 15 digs four times.
