BATON ROUGE, La. – The two-time reigning Southeastern Louisiana University softball team earned an 8-7 walk-off victory over No. 10 LSU in a NCAA Baton Rouge Regional elimination game Saturday evening at Tiger Park.

With the win, Southeastern (50-15) advances to Sunday's 2 p.m. championship game versus No. 19 Nebraska (41-13), marking the second time in as many trips to NCAA Regional play that SLU has advanced to the final game.

The Lady Lions will need to defeat the high-powered Huskers twice to advance to Super Regionals for the first time in program history. Southeastern's second win over the nationally-ranked Tigers (42-16) in as many days ended the season for national power LSU.

An RBI single by Brilee Ford gave SLU a 7-6 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning, but LSU tied it up in its half of the seventh. Facing Tiger ace Sydney Berzon (18-8), Colleen Kulivan flared a single to left to lead off the inning, then Kailey Dixon laid down a sacrifice bunt and reached on a throwing error to put a pair of runners on with no outs.

Berzon walked Shenita Tucker to load the bases and set up a force at every base. Freshman Shelby Morris then hit a grounder to second and Sierra Daniel's throw home wasn't in time to retire Kulivan, giving SLU it's second victory over the national power Tigers in as ma

"To be able to survive and advance against a program of LSU's caliber on its home field is a monumental step for our program," Southeastern head coach Rick Fremin said. "We have tremendous respect for LSU and what they were able to accomplish this season. But we have a special group as well here at Southeastern that I'm blessed to coach and to be able to reach 50 wins in today's climate is a great testament to the quality of people we have within our program. We're honored to be able to represent this great university on Championship Sunday for the second straight season."

LSU took the lead in the top of the first inning versus SLU starter Macie LaRue. Back-to-back singles by Danieca Coffey and Jalia Lassiter opened the game and plated a run to put LSU up, 1-0.

Southeastern answered immediately, as SLU batted around and took the lead in the bottom of the first inning without the benefit of a hit. Morris drew a leadoff walk and scored when Maria Detillier reached on a fielder's choice. Ford and Kulivan drew bases loaded walks, while Dixon plated the inning's final run with an RBI groundout to put SLU up, 4-1.

LaRue and LSU reliever Ashley Vallejo matched zeroes until the Tigers broke through in the top of the fourth inning. Maci Bergeron reached on an error to lead off the frame, moved to third on a one-out double by Redoutey and scored on a bloop single by Daniel. Jadyn Laneaux followed with an RBI single of her own to chase LaRue from the contest.

After recording a quick out, Lainee Bailey walked the bases loaded and then uncorked a wild pitch to allow LSU to knot the game at 4-4.

Southeastern retook the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. Vallejo hit Schneider to lead off the frame, then Maddie Watson drilled a double off the left field fence. The throw in from the outfield skipped away and allowed Schneider to score. Later in the frame, Dixon plated pinch runner Brilee Broussard with an RBI groundout to put SLU up, 6-4.

LSU took advantage of a Southeastern error in the top of the sixth inning. A two-out, two-run double by Lassiter plated a pair of unearned runs to tie the score and chase Hallie Burns from the game. Britney Lewinski (10-5) came in and was able to keep the score deadlocked at 6-6, retiring Tori Edwards on a groundout after a lengthy review.

Southeastern answered right back in the bottom of the sixth inning. Detiller singled with one out, moved to second on a Schneider groundout, then scored when Ford hit an RBI single up the middle to give SLU a 7-6 lead.

LSU answered the call again in the top of the seventh inning. Lewinski hit Redoutey, who scored one out later, when Lawrence hit a single off of the third base bag to knot the score at 7-7. Lewinski bounced back to retire Maddox McKee and Avery Hodge to set up the dramatic win for the Lions.

Southeastern added to its single-season school record with its 50th victory. The Lady Lions are just the third Southland Conference school to reach the 50-win mark, joining the 1996 Nicholls Colonels and the 2001 Texas State Bobcats.

Sunday's 2 p.m. game will be televised on ESPN+. The if necessary game would follow 30 minutes after if SLU can top Nebraska.
