FRISCO, Texas – SFA's Sonja Rooth and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Etienne Marty have won this week's Southland Conference Tennis Players of the Week awards, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday. Marty is a first-time winner while Rooth wins for the second time in her career and the first this season.
Men's Player of the Week: Etienne Marty, A&M-Corpus Christi – Sr. — Oxford, England
Marty went 2-0 in singles play and added a doubles win on the week, defeating New Mexico State at No. 4 singles 6-2, 6-4 to help the Islanders defeat the Aggies 4-2. He was leading at No. 2 doubles 6-6 (4-2) before the Islanders clinched the doubles point against NMSU. Marty notched a 7-5 No. 2 doubles win against Louisiana to help the Islanders win the doubles point over the Ragin Cajuns before adding a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles.
Women's Player of the Week: Sonja Rooth, SFA – So. – Gothenburg, Sweden (Kitas Gymnasium)
Rooth defeated her singles opponent at the No. 2 line in straight sets this past weekend at Louisiana Tech by a score of 6-2, 6-2. She collected her fourth straight singles of the season and now sits at a 4-0 singles record in 2026. Rooth also competed at the No. 1 doubles line for SFA, with the match concluding at a 4-4 UF tie.
