UIW's Hernandez and Andersson Headline Men's Tennis All-Conference and Superlative Honors

FRISCO, Texas – The Southland Conference announced this year's Men's Tennis All-Conference Teams and Superlative awards ahead of the 2026 Southland Conference Tennis Championships.

UIW's Alejandro Hernandez was named the Southland Player of the Year while claiming All-Conference First Team positioning at flight No. 1 singles and Second Team at No. 2 doubles. Hernandez fueled the Cardinals unbeaten run through conference play, winning the Southland Player of the Week award on two separate occasions. 

Rintaro Shukuda of Lamar won the conference's Freshman of the Year award. Shukuda ombined to win 20 matches on the season, playing the Nos. 1-3 singles positions and the Nos. 2-3 doubles spots. He opened the year and his collegiate career by knocking off the 34th-ranked singles player in the nation. Shukuda was also named to the All-Conference Second Team at flight No. 3 singles. 

A&M-Corpus Christi's Ethan Dasset was named the Newcomer of the Year, earning a 4-0 record in conference play from No. 4 singles, sweeping his way with straight set wins over UTRGV, Lamar, Nicholls, and UIW. He posted a 10-2 singles record overall on the year in the Islanders' lineup. Dasset also claimed All-Conference First Team honors at flight No. 4 singles. 

Jonas Andersson of UIW takes home Coach of the Year honors after spiritng an unbeaten season in conference and undisputed regular season for UIW. Under Andersson's tutelage, five different Cardinals earned All-Conference recognition this season.
