BEAUMONT, Texas – The championship matchup is set at the 2026 Southland Men’s Tennis Championship as No. 1 UIW and No. 3 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi advanced through semifinal play on Monday at the Beaumont Municipal Tennis Center.
Both teams leaned on strong singles performances, setting up a title showdown on Tuesday morning.
Top-seeded UIW opened the day with a dominant sweep of Lamar to punch the first ticket to the championship match.
After dropping the No. 1 doubles court, UIW rallied to claim the doubles point behind wins from Alejandro Hernandez/Alexandre Chauvel and Emilio Vila/Agustin Salazar.
In singles, Alejandro Hernandez delivered a 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 1, while Agustin Salazar followed with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 4. Santiago Flyckt added a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 5 to secure the 4-0 result for the Cardinals.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi battled past UTRGV in a tightly contested semifinal to advance to the title match.
UTRGV took the early advantage with the doubles point, but the Islanders responded in singles play. Etienne Marty rallied for a 1-6, 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 3, followed by straight-set victories from Ethan Dasset (6-3, 6-4 at No. 4) and Josef Zapletal (6-1, 7-5 at No. 5).
With the match hanging in the balance, Maxime Salesses delivered the clincher at No. 6, battling to a 3-6, 7-6, 6-3 win to secure the 4-2 victory.
