SFA Falls to No. 5 TCU in First Round of NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship

FORT WORTH — Despite a valiant 90-minute effort, the reigning Southland Conference champion SFA fell short Friday night against No. 5 TCU at Garvey-Rosenthal Stadium in Fort Worth.

The Lumberjacks ended on the wrong side of a 1-0 result against the Horned Frogs, who now advance past the first round of the NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship.

SFA's offense had a tough time finding momentum, tallying only two shots on goal. However, Sierra McCluer starred in the net for the Lumberjacks. The freshman goalkeeper rose to the occasion, turning in 10 saves while conceding only one goal, a penalty that Caroline Kelly netted in the 57th minute.

TCU had its chance at another penalty in the first half, but McCluer made her first in a series of spectacular saves to keep the score even.

Southland Coach of the Year Ben Williams and his Lumberjacks turned in a final record of 14-4-2 in his first year at the helm, securing the program's fourth SLC title.
