Coker, Valentine, and Alexander Claim Southland Women's Soccer Weekly Honors

FRISCO, Texas — University of the Incarnate Word’s Hannah Alexander and Tyler Coker, along with Houston Christian University’s Mikaela Valentine, earned this week's Southland Women's Soccer Player of the Week awards, the conference office announced Tuesday.

Offensive Player of the Week: Tyler Coker, Incarnate Word – Sr. – F – Albuquerque, N.M. (New Braunfels)
Coker scored a critical second-half goal to help lift UIW to a 2-0 win over preseason conference favorite Northwestern State on Friday night. This continued a recent series of clutch plays for her, who also scored the game-winner against East Texas A&M and assisted on the game-winner at Southeastern, plays that have gone a long way towards UIW (3-1) moving up to first in the Southland standings.

Defensive Player of the Week: Mikaela Valentine, Houston Christian – Fr. – D – Grand Prairie, Texas (South Grand Prairie)
Valentine played all 90 minutes and assisted on both HCU goals in the Huskies' dominating 2-0 win over SFA this past Thursday. The freshman was part of a back line that limited the opponents to four shots, with just two being on goal.

Goalkeeper of the Week: Hannah Alexander, Incarnate Word – GR. – GK – Austin, Texas (Lake Travis)
Alexander had a spectacular game in goal on Friday night, tying her season high with nine saves and pitching a 2-0 shutout against Northwestern State, which entered the night as the number two scoring offense in the country. This was her fifth shutout of the season, and she currently leads the SLC with 4.62 saves per game and is one of the key contributing reasons UIW currently sits in first place in the conference standings.
