FRISCO, Texas – The Southland Conference announced the annual Women’s Tennis awards and all-conference teams ahead of this week’s conference tournament.
The superlative awards were led by A&M-Corpus Christi's Emma Aucagne taking Player of the Year, McNeese's Anastasija Adeikyte winning Freshman of the Year, McNeese's Arina Gamretkaia earning Newcomer of the Year, and the Islanders’ Steve Moore winning Coach of the Year.
Player of the Year honors go to A&M-Corpus Christi's Emma Aucagne, as she earned First Team All-Conference at No. 1 singles as well as Second Team All-Conference No. 1 doubles with teammate Naomi Moi McKenzie. Aucagne went 6-1 in conference play at No. 1 singles winning five of her singles matches in straight sets.
McNeese's Anastasija Adeikyte wins the Freshman of the Year honors. She went 5-2 in conference play at No. 3 singles with an 16-2 overall singles record.
Gamretkaia from McNeese secures the Newcomer of the Year award. She finished the season 13-3 overall in No. 1 singles and went 5-2 in conference play.
Moore wins his fourth Coach of the Year award after winning in 2016, 2017 and 2023. The Islanders went 20-2 overall on the season with a perfect 7-0 SLC record. This was the Islanders’ fourth consecutive 20-plus win season as they will be the top seed in this week’s Southland Championships.
First team all-conference winners were Emma Aucagne at No. 1 singles with a 6-1 conference record, McKenzie (6-0) at No. 2 singles, Ana Veroux (5-1) at No. 3 singles, A&M-Corpus Christi’s Valeria Cherfus (7-0) at No. 4 singles, McNeese's Maria Wang Martinez (4-1) at No. 5 singles, and Palina Saulevich (5-0) at No. 6 singles.
First team doubles winners were UIW's Sofia Franco Salcedo and Isid Hernandez (7-1) at No. 1, UIW's Estefani Gonzalez and Ine Lamprecht (7-1) at No. 2 doubles, and McNeese's Tiana Fox and Aina Domingo-Bernabeu (6-1) at No. 3 doubles.
