SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Ninth seed Bryant and tenth seed Nicholls won opening round matches on Thursday morning to advance to the quarterfinal round of the 2024 Southland Conference Women’s Tennis Championships at the McFarlin Tennis Center.
Bryant knocked off eighth seed Lamar 4-0, while Nicholls beat seventh seed Southeastern 4-1.

The Bulldogs won the doubles point with wins on both the first and second courts. Caitlyn Munson and Natalia Vela won 6-3 at No. 1 and Mari Jose Hernandez Diaz and Yahli Noy won 6-4 at No. 2.
Diaz won 6-3, 6-1 over Lamar's Nouray Metwally at No. 4, Natalia Vela won 6-2, 7-5 against Marika Mueller at No. 1 and Caitlyn Munson played Martina Alcaino and won 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 at No. 5.
After defeating Lamar 4-0, Bryant advances to face first seed Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 10 a.m. Friday in the quarterfinal round.
(10) NICHOLLS 4, (7) SOUTHEASTERN 1
The Colonels navigated the doubles matches, maneuvering past the Lions and taking the first point. Lea Grinberg and Aada Inna led the charge with a 6-4 win over Taisia Bolsova and Kate Oborina at No. 2 while Carla Bouygues and Constanza Cruz beat Southeastern's Bente Bierma and Leana Gomez 6-3 in a win at No. 1.
Bogi Csordas and Alba Perez defeat Nicholls' Betija Dusele and Dareen Hassan 6-0, earning the Lions their only doubles point.
Nicholls closed out the Lions with an impressive showing in singles matches. Lea Grinberg downed Kate Oborina (6-1, 6-3) and Carla Bouygues took down Leana Gomez (6-1, 6-2). Southeastern's Claudia Di Leonardo answered with a win against Noemie Piquet 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5.
Liu QianYu clinched the match for the Colonels with a 6-4, 6-3 victory against Alba Perez at No. 1.
Nicholls meets second seed McNeese at 2 p.m. Friday in the quarterfinals.
