UIW Men win the Southland Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championship for the Third Straight Year.

HOUSTON, Texas – The UIW Cardinals scored 167 points to win the 2024 Southland Conference Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday.

Djimon Gumbs of Northwestern State claimed Most Outstanding Performer honors with 24 points, winning the shot put, placing second in the discus throw, and placing third in the javelin throw.

Kyle Sieraki of UIW claimed Most Outstanding Performer honors with 28 points, winning the decathlon, pole vault and coming in second in the javelin. Sieraki found himself on the all-time high point list for the SLC Men's decathlon. He is now fifth, with 7,833 total point.

A&M-Commerce's Ibrahim Fuseini scored 24.50 with gold medals in the 100m dash, 200m dash, 4x400m relay and a second-place finish in the 4x100m relay.
 
Other Saturday event winners included McNeese's  Jalen White in the 400 meter dash, HCU's Alex Martin in the 800 meter run and the 1500 meter run, McNeese's Jaden Powell in the 400 meter hurdles, UIW's Griffin Neal in the 5,000 meter run, UNO's  John Adesola in the 110 meter hurdles.
 
In the field events, Southeastern’s Slavko Stevic won the high jump for the fourth year, Northwestern States' Diamante Gumbs won the Discus, Hunter Longino won the javelin throw, and McNeese's Amire Ledet won the triple jump.
 
Texas A&M-Commer closed the meet with a 3:84 win in the 4x400 meter relay.
