Southland Conference Announces 2024 Track and Field All-Academic Teams

FRISCO, Texas –  Lamar's Nia Clatworthy, McNeese's Morgan Talley, Southeastern's Slavko Stevic, and UIW's Griffin Neal received Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Student-Athlete of the Year honors, the conference office announced Thursday.

Women's Indoor Track & Field Studnet-Athlete of the Year: Nia Clatworthy, Lamar
Clatworthy maintained a 3.90 GPA in Economics while excelling through the indoor and outdoor seasons. She competed in the 3000m, 5000m, mile, and DMR, totaling four top-five finishes on the year. Clatworthy won SLC titles in the 3000m and 5000m while earning silver in the DMR at the SLC Indoor Championships.

Men's Indoor Track & Field Studnet-Athlete of the Year: Slavko Stevic, Southeastern
Stevic shined in the high jump, winning his fourth career SLC title at Indoor and Outdoor championships. He finished the year with the 15th-highest outdoor high jump in the country, departing to Europe for the Olympics in Serbia before NCAA Regionals. Slavko maintained his high level of competition in conjunction with a 3.97 GPA in Computer Science.

Women's Outdoor Track & Field Studnet-Athlete of the Year: Morgan Talley, McNeese
An Education major, Talley finished the year at a 3.73 GPA. The SLC Track & Field Athlete of the Year tallied four medals at the Outdoor Championships. Talley was crowned the SLC Champion in the long jump, triple jump and heptathlon while grabbing the bronze medal in the 100m hurdles before competing at the NCAA East Regional. 

Men's Outdoor Track & Field Studnet-Athlete of the Year: Griffin Neal, UIW
Griffin took first in the 10k and 5k at the Outdoor Championships, earning SLC Men’s Runner of the Year to bookend an impressive campaign. He continued his season beyond that point, competing in the NCAA's West Regionals. Neal maintained a 3.68 GPA in Business Administration with an influence in Sports Management.

The All-Academic teams are voted on by head coaches, sports information directors, and academic/compliance staff members from each Southland Conference institution. Student-athletes must possess a 3.25 cumulative GPA, have completed one full academic year at the nominating institution to qualify for All-Academic selection, and have competed in at least 50 percent of their team’s meets. Fifty percent of those nominated earn the honor.
