FRISCO – Matthew Lotz of New Orleans and Ploy Makmanee of HCU earned the initial Southland Conference Golfer of the Month awards for the 2025-26 season, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Men’s Athlete of the Week: Matthew Lotz, New Orleans – Jr. – Cape Town, South Africa
Lotz averaged 70.167 over a pair of tournaments in September with two of his six rounds were below par, and five of his six rounds were at par or better. Lotz had a pair of rounds under 70 as he shot a 69 in the first round of the Grover Page Classic, and then a 67 during the second round of the Sandestin Collegiate Classic. He his two 54-hole scores were 211 and 210 and finished with 22 birdies last month.
Women’s Athlete of the Week: Ploy Makmanee, HCU – So. – Nonthaburi, Thailand
Makmanee averaged a 72 in six rounds during September. She began her sophomore year by going +2 at the ORU Lady Clerico Invitational, firing a second round 70 and placing 12th and then earned a runner-up finish at the Texas Tech Red Raider Invitational with a -2 performance that left her one streak off the lead. Makmanee shot -1 in the second round and then shot a career-low 69 in round 3 and shot under par in three of her six rounds of the month.

Southland monthly golf award winners are nominated and voted upon by each school’s sports information director. Voting for one’s own athlete is not permitted. To earn honorable mention, a student-athlete must appear on 25 percent of ballots.
