FRISCO – Jorge Martin Sampedro of UTRGV and Elsa Tornvall of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi earned the Southland Conference Golfer of the Month awards for February, as announced by the league office on Wednesday.
 
Men’s Golfer of the Month: Jorge Martin Sampedro, UTRGV – Sr. – Fuengirola, Spain (Baylor School)
Sampedro posted a pair of top-10 finishes to help UTRGV to a win at the Compadres Collegiate and a second place finish at the Military City Collegiate. He finished tied for seventh at the Compadres Collegiate with a three-round score of 221 after posting rounds of 76, 74, 71 and finished tied for 22nd at the Border Olympics with a three-round score of 217 with rounds of 74, 70, 70. Sampedro finished tied for eighth at the Military City Collegiate with a three-round score of 220 with rounds of 75, 67, 78 and posted a scoring average of 73.1 in the month of February.
 
Women’s Golfer of the Month: Elsa Tornvall, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi – Sr. – Gothenburg, Sweden (Hulebäcksgymnasiet Senior HS?)
Tornvall delivered a career-defining performance on her home course, capturing her first collegiate individual title to headline a strong third-place team showing in the Islanders Collegiate Invitational. She had three-day total of 221 (+5) thanks to firing a 70 (-2) in the first round and shooting just three over par in the final round to close out the tournament as the individual champion.
