FRISCO, Texas — Lamar's Veronica Harrison and Southeastern's Macie LaRue has been named this week's Jersey Mike's SLC Softball Players of the Week, the conference office announced Monday. They are the first two winners of the 2025 softball season.
Softball Hitter of the Week: Veronica Harrison, Lamar – So. – INF – Alvin, Texas (Alvin High School)
Harrison batted .545 (6-of-11) in Lamar's first four games over the weekend with five RBI, one double, and two homers. Harrison went 4-for-6 in the Cardinals' doubleheader sweep over Louisiana Monroe on Friday with three RBI. Against No. 1 Texas, she went 2-for-3 with two hits plus a two-run blast as she ignited a late Cardinal rally before falling 13-7.
Softball Pitcher of the Week: Macie LaRue, Southeastern – Jr. – RHP – Lovelady, Texas (Lovelady High School)
LaRue finished 2-0 with a 0.47 earned run average and held opponents to a .173 batting average at the season-opening Tiger Classic. In Saturday's 10-1 win over Charlotte, she held the defending AAC champion Niners to three hits in a complete-game effort. She was even better Sunday, striking out seven in a complete-game, two-hit shutout win over Central Arkansas. She also threw three innings of shutout relief versus UCA on Friday.
