FRISCO, Texas — Southeastern's Macie LaRue and HCU's AB Garcia have been named this week's Jersey Mike's SLC Softball Players of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Softball Hitter of the Week: AB Garcia, HCU – Jr. – CF – Cypress, Texas (Cypress High School)
Garcia continued her solid start to the season, leading Huskies to a series sweep of Northwestern State on the road. It was the first three-game sweep to start Southland play in program history and first three-game sweep on road in just over a year. Garcia had her third career four-hit game in the opener of the series, with a double and two triples, which tied a school single-game record for three-baggers. She also swiped a base to put her into a tie for second all-time at HCU. She now leads HCU with 24 runs scored in 20 games.
Softball Pitcher of the Week: Macie LaRue, Southeastern – Jr. – RHP – Lovelady, Texas (Lovelady High School)
LaRue allowed two hits in 13.2 innings of work during a 2-0 week that saw her post a 0.00 ERA and hold opponents to a .049 batting average. Her best outing was in Friday's 7-2 win over East Texas A&M, as she was perfect through five innings, did not allow a hit and struck out nine in 6.1 innings of work. She also threw 4.1 innings of shutout relief at Southern Miss Wednesday, then earned the win with 2.2 shutout innings in a 10-2 victory over ETAMU. LaRue is 7-0 in her debut season with the Lady Lions and is among the Southland leaders with a 1.39 ERA, 59 strikeouts and a .171 opposing batting avearge.
