SFA claims Men's Outdoor Track & Field Team Title, Fuseini sets championship records

HOUSTON – The SFA Lumberjacks scored 146 points to win the 2025 Southland Conference Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday.

Lamar placed second with 113 points, while UIW came in third with 99 points.

Ibrahim Fuseini of East Texas A&M claimed Most Outstanding Performer honors with 25 points, after setting two championship meet records in the 200m and 4x100m relay. He also won gold in the 100m dash and as a member of the 4x400m relay team. 

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi’s Emmanuel Ekuma and East Texas A&M’s Armani Modeste both won Newcomer of the Year honors. Both athletes tallied 12 points during the meet. 

Ekuma earned two bronze medals in the hammer throw and shot put, while Modeste was also a member of the Lions’ 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams. Modeste also earned points in the 200m and 400m dashes, placing fourth and seventh, respectively.  

SFA’s Elkana Kipruto won freshman of the year. He placed first in both the men’s 5000m and 10,000m for a total of 20 points.

SFA head coach Rob Hansen was named the Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Coach of the Year. This comes after also winning the accolade for the indoor season, where he also led the Lumberjacks to a championship title. 

Additional event winners from day three included Lamar’s Elijah Jackson (high jump), McNeese’s Marcus Francis (discus), SFA’s Bryson Williams (triple jump), HCU’s Edouard Lecrivain (1500m), Southeastern’s Olufolabo Ogunyemi (110m hurdles), Lamar’s Cameron Chin (400m), Texas A&M-Corpus Christi’s Phillip Jensen e Castro (800m) and SFA’s Jarvis Anderson (400m hurdles).
