Baertz Named Women's Golf Student-Athlete of the Year; All-Academic Team Announced

FRISCO – Marie Baertz of East Texas A&M has been named the Southland Conference’s Women’s Golf Student-Athlete of the Year, the conference office announced Thursday.

Baertz was runner-up at the Southland Championships in April and a First Team All-SLC selection. A two-time SLC Golfer of the Month, Baertz finished the season with a national ranking of 679.

Baertz led the Lions to their second consecutive runner-up team finish at the conference championships. Carrying a 4.00 GPA in Construction Engineering, Baertz was also honored on the President’s List and the CSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll.

The all-academic teams are voted on by a head coach, sports information director and an academic/compliance staff member from each Southland Conference institution. Student-athletes must possess a 3.25 cumulative GPA and completed one full academic year at the nominating institution to qualify for All-Academic selection. Student-Athlete of the Year nominees must have earned at least a 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale and demonstrated athletics achievement for at least two years at the nominating institution.
