FRISCO, Texas — Northwestern State's Emily Senatore, Kennedy Rist and HCU's Alexia Murillo have won this week's Jersey Mike's Southland Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Week awards, the conference office announced Tuesday. They are the first winners of the 2025 season.
Offensive Player of the Week: Emily Senatore – Jr. – M – Oxford, Conn. (Oxford High School)
Emily started the season with a bang, scoring two goals in the season-opening victory over Texas in one of the biggest upsets in Southland Conference history. She first scored in the fifth minute and then gave the Demons the lead in the 72nd minute, clinching the 3-2 win.
Defensive Player of the Week: Alexia Murillo, HCU – Sr. – M – San Antonio, Texas (Brandeis High School)
Murillo was a constant on the field for the Huskies on the opening weekend, logging 180 minutes and scoring a goal against Rice. Played a huge role as part of a defense that limited Tarleton State to just two shots on goal over the final 76 minutes after HCU fell behind 2-0 early, giving the Huskies a chance to come back and earn a big 3-2 road win.
Goalkeeper of the Week: Kennedy Rist, Northwestern State – Jr. – GK – Palm Harbor, Fla. (East Lake High School)
Rist had 19 saves in two games this past weekend, including 13 in the Demons upset victory at nationally ranked Texas. She followed that up with six more against SMU. She had a strong save percentage of .826 and leads the SLC in both saves (19) and saves per game (9.3) through one week of competition. Rist also delivered a key outlet pass that set up a game-tying goal against the Longhorns, giving her an assist for her first career point.
