FRISCO, Texas — Lamar's Lauren Smith, Southeastern's Ella Quinlan and HCU's Emmy McKeon have won this week's Jersey Mike's Southland Conference weekly soccer awards, the conference office announced Tuesday. All three are first time winners this season.
Offensive Player of the Week: Lauren Smith, Lamar – Jr. – F – Birmingham, England (Tudor Grange Academy)
Smith tied a program record with four goals in a single game during Lamar’s 11-0 win over Texas A&M-San Antonio. She played 25 minutes and took six shots in the match while scoring twice in each half. Her eight points were also the second-highest point total in a single game. She currently leads the conference in goals (six), shots on goal (16), and points (14).
Honorable Mention: Avery Mondoux, Nicholls
Defensive Player of the Week: Ella Quinlan, Southeastern – R So. – D – Covington, La. (Christ Episcopal School)
Quinlan stepped up big for Southeastern in its 2-0 victory over Southern. She played a key role on the defensive line that shutout the JaguarsQuinlan also connected in the net early in second half to secure the first goal of her career and the consequential game winner for the Lions.
Honorable Mention: Annika Kassebrock, Lamar
Goalkeeper of the Week: Emmy McKeon, HCU – So. – GK – Kaysville, Utah (Farmington High School)
McKeon recorded her first shutout of the season and fifth of her career on Sunday, making six saves in the Huskies' 2-0 road win at Louisiana Tech. The win marks HCU's third in a row heading into the start of conference play.
