FRISCO, Texas — UIW's Kitana Tu'ufuli, Lamar's Gabby Baker and UTRGV's Isabella Costantini have earned this week's Jersey Mike's Southland Conference Volleyball Player of the Week awards, the league office announced Monday.
Offensive Player of the Week: Kitana Tu'ufuli, UIW – Jr. – OH – St. Hedwig, Texas (Steele High School)
Tu'ufuli had her best weekend in a Cardinal jersey, putting up 37 kills, five digs, four blocks, and 40.0 points at the Red Raider Classic where UIW took one of three matches while putting up a fight against two Power Four opponents. She played in 11 sets played, averaging 3.7 k/s and 3.6 p/s. Tu'ufuli's most impressive showing came in a five-set thriller against Texas Tech, tallying a season-high 16 kills, while hitting .412.
Honorable Mention: Aaliyah Snead, UTRGV
Defensive Player of the Week: Gabby Baker, Lamar – Fr. – L/DS – Bryan, Texas (Rudder High School)
Baker averaged 5.59 digs per set this past week, earning MVP honors at the Lamar Invitational. Her impressive totals helped her to a 3-0 showing at the event while she piled up 95 digs across the Cardinals' four matches last week.
Setter of the Week: Isabella Costantini, UTRGV – Jr. – S – Curitiba, Brazil
Costantini had another big weekend doing a little bit of everything for UTRGV, helping the Vaqueros go 2-1 at the James Madison’s Erie Insurance Invitational. She averaged 10.7 assists per set and had UTRGV hitting .302 through three matches. Costantini totaled 107 assists, 17 digs, 11 kills, six blocks and three aces in 10 sets. She had UTRGV hitting over .300 in two matches, leading the squad to sweeps in both.
