FINAL RESULTS
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The SFA Lumberjacks men's track and field team held onto a healthy lead from the first day of competition to lay claim to secure the 2026 Southland Indoor Track and Field Championship Thursday afternoon.
The win marks consecutive titles for the Lumberjacks and their sixth Southland title overall. SFA finished with 157 points followed by Northwestern State with 123 and UIW with 96.5 to round out the top three. UTRGV followed in fourth with 61 points while A&M-Corpus Christi claimed fifth with 60 points and Lamar had 49 points. East Texas A&M finished the meet with 45.5, McNeese ended at 28 with HCU tallying 22, Southeastern 15 and New Orleans earning six.
Bryson Williams contributed to the 'Jacks success in the field events where he won gold in the triple jump with a 16.04 mark. James Williams' 17.24 shotput attempt was good for bronze in the event.
Shifting focus to the track events, SFA's Keyshawn Garcia has one of the moments of the championship, diving across the finish line to win gold in the men's 800m with a 1:51.14 time. The 'Jacks success in the intermediate distance races translated to one of the longer distance races with Paul Kiprotich winning the 3000m with an 8:15.14 time and teammate Devon Judelson following closely in second with an 8:15.72 time.
The Jacks put a cap on their championship in the final event of the meet, winning the 4x400m relay with a 3:10.93 time.
Gabriel Grebet of UIW won the heptathalon, setting a meet record in the 60m Hurdle in the process with a 8.02 time. His teammate, Anthony Zapata, won the mile with a 4:10.40 time. East Texas A&M's Cheyne West won the 60m Hurdle with a 7.91 time and Myles Redding won the 400m with a 46.66 time.
Northwestern State's impressive day on the track was certainly represented in its showing in the 60m, taking all three spots on the podium with Kalen Beavers leading the charge in first with a time of 6.71. Beavers added another first-place time in the 200m, clocking in at 21.05.
