No. 3 SFA Storms Back to Stun No. 2 Lamar in Overtime to Return to the Southland Championship Game

LAKE CHARLES, La. – For the second straight season, the No. 3 SFA Ladyjacks knocked off No. 2 Lamar, rallying for a 64–59 overtime victory in another dramatic semifinal comeback.

Lamar appeared to be in control for much of the afternoon, building a seven-point halftime lead and stretching the margin to 15 points midway through the third quarter. But just like their quarterfinal win over Nicholls, the Ladyjacks refused to fold.

SFA slowly chipped away behind defensive pressure and transition opportunities, trimming the deficit to six by the end of the third before continuing the push in the fourth to force overtime.

Once in the extra period, the momentum fully belonged to SFA. The Ladyjacks outscored Lamar 12–7 in overtime, making key plays on both ends to complete the comeback and punch their ticket back to the title game.

Kaylinn Kemp led SFA with 17 points, while Ashlyn Traylor-Walker added 16, helping power the Ladyjacks through the second-half rally.

The win sends SFA to its second straight Southland Championship Game, where the Ladyjacks will look to defend their tournament crown.

SFA will face top-seeded McNeese tomorrow at 4 PM CT on ESPNU.

It will also mark a historic first for the Southland Tournament, as both the men’s and women’s championship games will feature the same two schools — McNeese and Stephen F. Austin.
