FRISCO, Texas — Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Kendra Winfrey and Lamar's Cala Wilson have earned this week's Jersey Mike's Southland Softball Player of the Week awards, the conference office announced Monday. Both players get the nod for the first time this season.
Softball Hitter of the Week: Cala Wilson – So. – INF – Ruston, La. (Ruston High School)
Wilson batted .533 (8-of-15) last week with 10 RBI, two homers and two triples while scoring six runs as she led the Cardinals to an undefeated week. She drove in the first run on an RBI single in what would be an 8-0, five-inning victory against then second-ranked mid-major Texas State last Tuesday. She followed that by recorded seven hits and nine RBI over the weekend series against East Texas A&M. This included a career-best five-RBI performance with a homer and a triple in game one. The doubleheader on Saturday saw her drive in four RBI on five hits with one triple and a homer as well. Wilson is currently tied for second in conference RBIs (31) and homers (7).

Softball Pitcher of the Week: Kendra Winfrey, A&M-Corpus Christi – Jr. – LHP – Ankeny, Iowa (Ankeny High School)
Winfrey posted 2 wins in the circle over the weekend, securing the series win at HCU with just a 0.58 ERA against the Huskies. She threw a complete game in game one before returning to the circle in relief in game three, tossing 5.0 shutout innings to secure the series win. Winfrey struck out 12 total batters.
