A&M-Corpus Christi's Mayer, Northwestern State's Marsala III Named Baseball Players of the Week

FRISCO – Northwestern State first baseman Thomas Marsala III and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi pitcher Chaes Mayer picked up the Southland Baseball Player of the Week awards for the seventh week of the 2026 season, which were announced Monday by the conference office.

Hitter of the Week: Thomas Marsala III, Northwestern State - Sr. - 1B - Monroe, La. (St. Fredrick HS)
Marsala III produced three multi-hit games in Northwestern's four-game week. He homered and drove in two runs in a midweek win against his hometown university, ULM, and followed that with a home run and two more RBIs in a series-opening win at Nicholls. The senior snapped a 7-all tie in the eighth inning with an RBI single on Saturday, delivered two more hits, including a double in Sunday's series finale at Nicholls.

Pitcher of the Week: Chase Mayer, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi - Jr. - RHP - Amherst, Ohio (Marion L Steele HS)
Mayer locked down saves in a pair of wins over UTRGV in Edinburg on Friday and Sunday, helping the Islanders win the series over the Vaqueros for the first time since 2022. He earned the three-inning save on Friday, surrendering a lone walk while punching out three to secure the 9-6 victory while escaping a bases-loaded jam upon coming out of the bullpen in the seventh. He turned around and pitched the ninth in the finale, retiring the heart of UTRGV's lineup in order to lock down the win by the final of 5-2.
