Northwestern State's Vernell Atamah named Jersey Mike's Women's Basketball Player of the Week

FRISCO, Texas — Northwestern State's Vernell Atamah has earned this week's Jersey Mike's Southland Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week award, the conference office announced Monday. This is Atamah's third honor of the season. 

Women's Basketball Player of the Week: Vernell Atamah, Northwestern State - Forward - Sophomore - Mesquite, Texas
Atamah averaged 26 points and 11 rebounds per game in the Demons' three wins, including two on the road. She had a 26-point, 8-rebound effort on the road against a UTRGV team that earned a bye in the SLC Tournament. The reigning freshman of the year scored 31 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in the win over New Orleans to end the regular season. In the win over the Privateers, she became the 28th player in NSU women's basketball history to record 1,000 points at NSU, doing so in just 62 games, becoming one of the players in the NSU history to achieve that in the quickest amount of time.
