BEAUMONT, Texas – The higher seeds advanced on Sunday, but not without a battle, as the quarterfinal round of the 2026 Southland Women’s Tennis Championship wrapped up at the Beaumont Municipal Tennis Center.
No. 1 McNeese, No. 2 Northwestern State, and No. 3 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi each moved on, while No. 4 SFA survived a thriller to round out the semifinal field. With the doubles point once again proving pivotal, each match ultimately came down to depth in singles play.
After dropping the doubles point, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi flipped the match in singles play with four straight wins.
Yana Mykytyn got the Islanders on the board with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 2, followed by Kseniya Ramanouskaya with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 3. Adri Jimenez Casado added a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 5 before Juliette Jalai sealed the match at No. 6 with a 6-1, 6-1 decision.
Northwestern State claimed the doubles point and controlled the match from there to advance.
Athina Grigoriadou earned a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 2, while Martina Acebedo followed with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 4. Sofia Garcia added a dominant 6-2, 6-0 result at No. 5 to push the Lady Demons to the brink. UTRGV’s lone point came from Rhea Makesar at No. 3 singles.
Top-seeded McNeese delivered a commanding performance, sweeping New Orleans 4-0.
The Cowgirls secured the doubles point behind wins from Salome Fluri/Erica Hagi and Ana Hollweg/Naomi Hagi. In singles, Ana Hollweg (6-1, 6-2 at No. 4), Stella Rundova (6-1, 6-0 at No. 3), and Erica Hagi (6-1, 6-1 at No. 5) all posted straight-set victories, with Hagi clinching the match.
In the most competitive match of the day, defending tournament champion SFA rallied past UIW in a 4-3 thriller to close out the quarterfinal round.
UIW took the doubles point and extended the lead to 2-0 behind a straight-set win from Estefania Gonzalez at No. 1 singles.
SFA responded with wins from Felcia Back (6-2, 6-2 at No. 2) and Antonella Taco (6-3, 6-0 at No. 4) to even the match. Ksenia Mamontova followed with a comeback victory at No. 3 (3-6, 6-1, 6-0) to give the Ladyjacks the lead.
After UIW tied the match at 3-3 with a three-set win from Alex Mille at No. 6, it came down to the final court. Ana Paula Chavez clinched the match for SFA at No. 5, rallying for a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 win to secure the 4-3 victory.
