SFA Headlines Successful Week 2 For Southland Football
Major non-conference opportunities were laid out for several teams in the Southland heading into Week 2. The weekend ended with three more SLC victories over peer conferences, including two more against the UAC. No. 12/8 SFA was named the Stats Perform FCS Team of the Week after a dominating 26-7 win at Abilene Christian, Southeastern kicked an early losing streak to beat North Alabama at home and No. 14/15 Lamar grinded out a win at Idaho.
‘Jacks Look To Build On Road Momentum
SFA gets another opportunity for a notable non-conference win when they head to Prarie View to face the Panthers. The ‘Jacks, coming off a win at Abilene Christian, face yet another conference champion from last season as they go for a 4-0 start. SFA’s defense has been a stout force over the last two weeks, only allowing a touchdown apiece to ACU and East Texas A&M in that span.
Cowboy Showdown In The Valley
McNeese takes its first road trip of the season, visiting UTRGV in Vackar Stadium. Both the Cowboys and Vaqueros will try to steer things back in the right direction after narrow three-point losses last week. McNeese and UTRGV should bring plenty of offensive fireworks to this contest, especially in the passing game where both teams rank No. 1 and 2 in total passing yards in the conference.
Key Conference Battle Set In San Antonio
The early surprise of the Southland season in RV/RV HCU has its second chance to play spoiler in a conference road game, starting down a matchup with UIW on Saturday. The Cardinals outgained Northern Arizona by nearly 300 yards in last week’s loss, but six turnovers spelled their demise in that contest. They hope for a cleaner showing in what presents as a prime opportunity for both teams.
River Bell Rivals Reload After Notable Week 2 Wins
There’s no question that Southeastern and NR/RV Nicholls capitalized on the opportunities presented to them in Week 2 with the Lions notching their first win of the season against UAC foe North Alabama while the Colonels made a statement with a win over UTRGV. However, they will be sizable underdogs this Saturday when they attempt to shock ULM and Sam Houston respectively.
