INDIANAPOLIS – Six teams from the Southland Bowling League have been selected to participate in the 2023 NCAA Bowling Championships, as announced Wednesday.
The 17-team field is split into four regionals, with each regional hosting at least one SBL team. All regionals are double elimination.
This is the second consecutive season that the SBL has sent six schools to the NCAA Tournament.
Vanderbilt is the No. 2 overall seed and will play Carthage College in the Lansing, Mich., regional. Also at Lansing is Youngstown State, who will face off against Maryville (Mo.) in the first round.
Conference champion Arkansas State is the No. 3 overall seed and will go up against Sacred Heart in the first round of the Rochester, N.Y., regional.
Stephen F. Austin will take on Duquesne in the Pittsburgh, Pa., regional, and Sam Houston will take on conference rival Louisiana Tech in the first round of the Arlington, Texas, regional.
Regional action will take place on Friday, April 7, and Saturday, April 8. The winner of each regional will advance to the NCAA championship. The championship matches will be played April 14-15 at South Point Bowling Plaza in Las Vegas, Nevada. The University of Nevada, Las Vegas and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority are the hosts.
Each round will consist of teams competing in a best-of-three match format, bowled in the following order: five-person team match; Baker total pin fall; and best-of-seven Baker match play. Regional competition will conclude with one team from each regional bracket advancing to compete in the championship. The champion will be determined using a best-of-seven Baker match play. The championship final will air at 9 p.m. Eastern time, Saturday, April 15 on ESPNU.
