LAS VEGAS, Nev. – After one of the strongest seasons in league history, the Southland Bowling League placed nine bowlers on the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) All-America Teams. Vanderbilt’s Mabel Cummins was named the national Bowler of the Year and Commodores coach John Williamson was named the national Coach of the Year at the NCAA Championship Banquet on Thursday.
NCAA Championship semifinals begin Friday at the South Point Bowling Plaza with Vanderbilt squaring off against Arkansas State and Nebraska meeting McKendree at 11 a.m. CDT. The national championship is Saturday at 8 p.m. CDT televised live on ESPNU.
Led by Cummins, three of the six first team All-Americans are from the SBL. She is joined by Stephen F. Austin’s Carlene Beyer and Chloe Skurzynski.
The second team also had three Southland bowlers – Sam Houston’s Elise Chambers, Louisiana Tech’s Allie Leiendecker, and Vanderbilt’s Caroline Thesier. Three more SBL bowler earned third team All-America honors – Alyssa Ballard and Paige Peters of Vanderbilt and Brooklyn Buchanan of Arkansas State.
