FRISCO, Texas – After winning the 2023 NCAA Bowling Championship, the Vanderbilt Commodores lead the Southland Bowling League with four all-conference selections and two all-rookie picks, as the SBL All-Conference teams were announced Tuesday.
The All-Conference and All-Rookie teams were selected by the league's coaches following the completion of all collegiate play, including Vanderbilt's NCAA Championship and the USBC's Intercollegiate Team Championships.
The All-Conference first team is full of familiar names, as four of the five honorees are three-time all-conference winners. SBL Bowler of the Year Mabel Cummins of Vanderbilt is joined on the first team by Stephen F. Austin's Carlene Beyer, Arkansas State's Brooklyn Buchanan, and Louisiana Tech's Allie Leiendecker as three-time picks, while Youngstown State's Madyson Marx makes her first all-conference appearance.
On the second team, Sam Houston's Denise Blankenzee and Elise Chambers each earn all-conference honors for the third time, while Arkansas State's Emma Stull and Stephen F. Austin's Chlo Skurzynski are honored for the second time. SBL Newcomer of the Year Alyssa Ballard earns her first all-conference award, while also being named to the All-Rookie Team.
Vanderbilt's Caroline Thesier is a two-time all-conference honoree on the third team, joined by first time honorees Bea Hernandez of Sam Houston, Lindsay Manning of Louisiana Tech, and freshmen Maggie Thoma of Arkansas State and Victoria Varano of Vanderbilt.
Ballard, Thoma, and Varano are on the all-rookie team along with Youngstown State's Hope Bunk and Arkansas State's Karli VanDuinen.
