CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Top seed A&M-Corpus Christi and third seed Boise State advanced to the winner’s bracket semifinals in the first day of action at the 2023 Southland Conference Beach Volleyball Championships at Water’s Edge Park on Friday.
Action continues at 10 a.m. with all seven teams still in contention for the conference title and automatic qualification to the NCAA Tournament.
Top seed A&M-Corpus Christi had a bye to the second round and advanced to the semifinals with a 3-0 win over fourth seed New Orleans. The Islanders’ Maria Duda Fernandes de Melo and Hannah Doyle win 21-15, 21-12 at No. 5, Shea Slusser and Kela Moreno won 21-17, 21-16 at No. 4, and Jade Bennett and Tori Johnson closed out the match at No. 3 with a 21-15, 22-20 win.
Third seed Boise State won 3-0 over sixth seed San José State and took down second seed HCU 3-1 to make it to the semifinals. Top pair Rorianna Chartier and Sierra Land and No. 5 pair Joey Benson and Aris Vetter each won a match in each dual.
Other match winners included HCU going 3-0 over seventh seed Nicholls and New Orleans going 3-1 over fifth seed Southeastern
