FRISCO, Texas – Viggo Hed of Southeastern and Marie Baertz of Texas A&M-Commerce earned the initial Southland Conference Golfer of the Month awards for the 2024-25 season, as announced by the league office on Thursday.
Men’s Athlete of the Week: Viggo Hed, Southeastern – Fr. – Halmstad, Sweden
Viggo Hed was the top performer for the Lions in the first two fall tournaments. At the season-opening Grover Page Classic, he finished in a tie for 3rd at seven-under par. At the Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate, Hed again finished in red numbers, carding a one-under par 215 to finish tied for 27th.
Women’s Athlete of the Week: Marie Baertz, Texas A&M-Commerce – So. – Hollerich, Luxembourg (Lycee Michel-Rodange)
Marie Baertz has finished in the top 10 in all three tournaments she played last month, including a third-place finish at Sam Houston. She averaged 72.4 in the nine rounds, the low was a 69 in the second round at UT Arlington. The Lions finished fifth in two tournaments and third at Sam Houston.

Southland monthly golf award winners are nominated and voted upon by each school’s sports information director. Voting for one’s own athlete is not permitted. To earn honorable mention, a student-athlete must appear on 25 percent of ballots.
