INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – SFA secured its 17th Southland Conference Women's Basketball Championship Thursday along with the conference's automatic bid to NCAA Women's Basketball Championship. Sunday, they learned their destination and opponent for the First Round.
The 14-seeded Ladyjacks will take on No. 3 Notre Dame Friday in South Bend, Ind. at Purcell Pavillion. Broadcast information for the game is to be determined.
The winner will play No. 6 Michigan or the winner of the play-in contest between No. 11 Princeton or No. 11 Iowa State matchup. The second round matchup set for Sunday will launch the victor in to Regional 3 in Birmingham, Ala.
SFA (29-5) will be making their 19th appearance in The Big Dance and their first since 2022.
Notre Dame (26-5), holds a ranking of No. 8 in the AP Poll. They won a share of the ACC regular season before falling to Duke 61-56 in the ACC Semifinals. The Fighting Irish will be making their 28th appearance in the tournament.
SFA defeated Southeastern 65-57 to win the Southland Conference Tournament championship game and earn the conference's automatic bid. This will be the Ladyjacks' second matchup against Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish eeked out a 76-75 win over SFA when the teams last met on March 20, 2016.
The Ladyjacks enter the postseason with an 15-game win streak.
