FRISCO, Texas – A&M-Corpus Christi's Omar Suarez and Northwestern State's Tjasa Klevisar have won this week's Jersey Mike's Southland Conference Tennis Players of the Week awards, as announced by the Conference Office on Tuesday.
Men's Player of the Week: Omar Suarez, A&M-Corpus Christi – So. —Duran, Ecuador
Suarez played a huge role in securing the Regular Season Championship in a first-round battle versus UTRGV this weekend… paired with Etienne Marty at No. 2 doubles winning 6-3 to help aid in the doubles point… took a straight set victory at No. 2 singles 7-6 (4), 6-3 to go 2-0 on the day and contribute in the 4-3 match victory to win the regular season and complete an undefeated team season in conference play.
Women's Player of the Week: Tjasa Klevisar, Northwestern State – Sr. – Kranj, Slovenia (Gimnazija Franceta Preserna)
Tjasa Klevisar recorded a 2-0 record in singles at the No. 2 spot, beating McNeese's Erica Hagi 6-3, 6-3, and winning against Southeastern's Suanarsa 6-1, 6-1. In doubles, Klevisar remained undefeated as well with partner Maria Farina, winning against McNeese 6-4, and Southeastern 6-4. The senior celebrated Senior Day on Monday and was a pivotal player in the Lady Demons clinched the Regular Season title.
