Lamar and UIW Stay in Week 5 Top 25; Southeastern, SFA Stay on the Radar

FRISCO – Two Southland Conference programs are ranked in the national Top 25 polls, while two more continue to receive votes heading into Week 6, as announced Monday by both the AFCA Coaches and Stats Perform polls.

Lamar now sits in both major polls this week. The Cardinals finally entered and are ranked No. 25 in the AFCA Coaches Poll, while hold steady at No. 20 in the Stats Perform Poll. Lamar edged Central Arkansas, 35-32, finishing off a perfect non-conference slate against FCS teams and now returns home for a league clash with Nicholls on Saturday.

UIW re-entered the AFCA Coaches Poll at No. 20 following a commanding 38-7 win over then-No. 12/13 Abilene Christian. The Cardinals also received votes after the statement victory. They now turn their attention to conference play, hosting Stephen F. Austin on Saturday.

Stephen F. Austin continues to gain traction in both polls, sitting among those receiving votes in the AFCA Coaches and Stats Perform rankings. The Jacks earned a 34-17 home win over McNeese to open league play. They now face their toughest test yet, traveling to No. 20 UIW for a Saturday showdown in the Southland.

Southeastern checks in among those receiving votes in the AFCA Coaches Poll after a strong start to conference play. The Lions racked up more than 500 yards of total offense in a 45-31 win over UTRGV. Southeastern heads west this week for a matchup with McNeese on Saturday night.
