FRISCO, Texas — Nicholls graduate guard Jaylen Searles has been named this week's Southland Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday. Searles is a first-time winner of this award this season and a second-time winner overall. Searles also represents the second Colonel to earn this award this season with Jalik Dunkley claiming the honor last week.

Seares had a sensational showing in the Colonels' 2-0 week, averaging 21.5 points on 57.7% from the field and adding 4.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.5 steals and 1.5 blocks. His campaign began with 18 points and six rebounds in Nicholls' 74-72 win over Northwestern State. He played all 40 minutes at New Orleans, scoring his Colonel career-high 24 points to go with four steals and four assists. Pieced together 10 consecutive points in the second half to give Nicholls its largest lead of the day at 19 points. He and the Colonels enter the week 7-0 in conference play and in first palce atop the Southland standings
