Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Men's Team Shines, UIW and NJIT each claim victories at Inaugural SLC Individual Tennis Championships

HAMMOND — The inaugural SLC Individual Tennis Championships concluded with men's and women's action across singles and doubles contests Sunday afternoon at the Southeastern Tennis Complex in Hammond, La. While NJIT and UIW saw success on the women's side, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi made a complete sweep on the men's side. 

Starting with those Islanders, they notched their first crown in the men's doubles finals with the duo of Harry Fouzas and Tom Berry defeating Pablo Perez Ramos and Will Jenkins of NJIT 6-4, 6-4. Nathan Favier shined through for A&M-Corpus Christi in the men's singles final, beating Perez Ramos 7-5, 3-6, 6-4.

NJIT's women's doubles team of Irene Cocero and Laura Wipfli took down Jemma Cave and Ksenia Mamontova of SFA 6-3, 6-1 to claim that title. In the women's singles final, Sofia Salcedo of UIW bested Northwestern State's Honoka Umeda 6-2, 7-6 (7-3). 

The winners qualify for the ITA Fall Master's Tournament, beginning November 7. 

The tournament will feature competitors from all 32 NCAA Division I conferences.The event will be hosted at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, Ga., from November 7-10, 2024.
