THIBODAUX, La. – No. 1 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi will meet No. 4 NJIT, while No. 2 SFA takes on rival No. 3 Northwestern State in tomorrow's semifinals at the 2025 Southland Women's Tennis Championship after terrific play on Wednesday afternoon at the Thibodaux Regional Sports Complex.
Match 4 – (1) Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 4, (8) UIW 0
Top-seeded Texas A&M-Corpus Christi had no trouble with No. 8 UIW as they cruised to a 4-0 victory. After taking the double point dominantly, Juliette Jalai got singles rolling with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 6, while Kseniya Ramanouskaya drew the Islanders closer with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 4. Adriana Jimenez wrapped the match up with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 5 court to clinch.
Match 5 – (4) NJIT 4, (5) UTRGV 2
In an incredible match, No. 4 NJIT earned a narrow 4-2 win over No. 5 UTRGV. After splitting wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, it all came down to a tiebreaker at No. 3 for the key doubles point. Feyza Aydin and Paula Menendez Alvarez came through for the key point in a thrilling 7-6 (8-6) win. Maria Bakhtina evened the match for the Vaqueros with a win at No. 6 singles, but Laura Wipfli won No. 1 6-3, 7-5 to put the Highlanders back ahead. Yaiza Vazquez drew the match back even at No. 3, before Alvarez came through a second time, winning 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2 singles. Irene Cocero clinched the match in a three-set thriller at No. 4 with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 victory and erasing a 3-0 third-set deficit.
Match 6 – (2) SFA 4, (7) Southeastern 0
The second-seeded Lady Jacks cruised to a 4-0 win over No. 7 Southeastern. After taking the doubles point in dominant fashion, Antonella Taco took the first singles point at No. 5 with a 6-3, 6-1 win, while Ana Paula Chavez followed with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 2. After taking set one 6-1, Ksenia Mamontova found herself down 5-1 in the second set and appeared to be heading to a third. However, Mamontova responded with six straight set wins to come from behind and earn the match-clincher at No. 2 singles.
Match 7 – (3) Northwestern State 4, (6) McNeese 2
No. 3 Northwestern State took an epic 4-2 win over No. 6 McNeese to return to the semifinals. After the Demons cruised to the doubles point, Alexa Martinez of McNeese got the Cowgirls on the board at No. 4 singles to even the match. Sofi Garcia responded with a win at No. 6 singles for the Demons before McNeese evened it back up with an Elena Morales win at No. 5. A key victory came at No. 2 singles as Zoi Spyrou held off her opponent, including a second set 7-5 tiebreaker to break the deadlock and put Northwestern State ahead 3-2. Honoka Umeda clinched the match at No. 3 with a tight 7-6 (7-0), 7-5 win, including holding off set point.
