Caton of HCU Named Student Athlete of the Year; Men's Golf All-Academic Team Announced

FRISCO, Texas – Ben Caton of HCU has been named the Southland Conference’s Men’s Golf Student-Athlete of the Year per the conference's announcement Friday. This marks Caton's third time earning academic all-conference honors.
 
Caton carried a 4.0 graduate grade point average in his pursuit of a Master's in Data Analytics and was named to the All-Conference Second Team. He led HCU with a 73.42 scoring average this season and had seven rounds below par with five par rounds, shooting a low round of 66. Caton helped lead the Huskies to a fourth place finish at the SLC Championships, tying for 10th in the individual table.

He is joined on the all-academic first team by first team all-conference selection Carl Hardin of Lamar along with Jacob Lindh of Lamar, Xavier Schwarz of Francis Marion and Thomas Artigas of New Orleans. 

Lamar has three total all-academic selections, with New Orleans having two. Francis Marion, UIW, Southeastern, and A&M-Commerce each have one selection.
 
The all-academic teams are voted on by a head coach, sports information director and an academic/compliance staff member from each Southland Conference institution. Student-athletes must possess a 3.25 cumulative GPA and completed one full academic year at the nominating institution to qualify for All-Academic selection. Student-Athlete of the Year nominees must have earned at least a 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale and demonstrated athletics achievement for at least two years at the nominating institution.
