FRISCO, Texas – UTRGV's Nayla Harris and East Texas A&M's Jenniel Jacobie earn the first Southland Conference Women's Track & Field Athletes of the Week awards, respectively, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday.
Women’s Track Athlete of the Week: Nayla Harris – Sprints - Sr. – Seguin, Texas
Nayla Harris opened her season running a Southland Conference and UTRGV record time of 7.18 in the 60-meter dash for a first-place finish at Houston’s Leonard Hilton Memorial Invitational. She was ranked No. 2 in the nation after the race and is currently ranked No. 3 in the nation in the 60. She also sits at No. 1 in the conference.
Women’s Field Athlete of the Week: Jenneil Jacobie, East Texas A&M – High Jump - Jr. - Piat Grand Rivière, Saint Lucia
Jacobie came in first in the high jump at the Owen Hewett Invitational, hosted by Oklahoma. Her mark of 5-10.75 (1.80m) leads the conference and is tied for 18th in the country thus far this season.
