SFA's Dodson, HCU's Alexis and McNeese's Marijnissen Earn Weekly Southland Women's Soccer Awards

FRISCO, Texas — SFA's Taylor Dodson, HCU's Katya Alexis and McNeese's Celeste Marijnissen have won this week's Jersey Mike's Southland Conference weekly soccer awards, the conference office announced Tuesday. All three players are first-time winners this season.

Offensive Player of the Week: Taylor Dodson, SFA – Fr. – F/M – Midlothian, Va. (James River High School)
Dodson recorded 154 total minutes, with four total shots on goal in two matches. Against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Dodson netted two goals on two shots with a 100% shooting percentage, with her first-ever game-winning goal in the 3-1 victory for SFA. This is the first match Dodson recorded a multiple-goal performance in her career, with a career-high four points in a match. Dodson is now leading SFA in scoring, as those two goals accounted for her fourth and fifth goals of her freshman season at SFA.

Defensive Player of the Week: Katya Alexis, HCU – Fr. – D – Ottawa, Ontario, Canada (Paul-Desmarais High School)
Katya played all 180 minutes for the Huskies on an unbeaten week and scored goals in both matches. The freshman scored her first 2 collegiate goals off corner kicks with the first pulling HCU level in a 1-1 draw at Nicholls. She then gave the Huskies a 1-0 lead off a corner in Sunday's 2-1 win over UIW.

Goalkeeper of the Week: Celeste Marijnissen, McNeese – So. – GK – Zaandam, Netherlands (Hogeschool van Amsterdam)
Marijnissen was a standout presence in goal this week, playing all 180 minutes and helping lead the Cowgirls to back-to-back wins. She opened the week with a 1-0 shutout victory over UTRGV—her first career shutout—before following it up with a solid performance in a 2-1 win over Lamar. Across both matches, Celeste faced 28 shots and recorded 13 saves, conceding just one goal.
