FRISCO, Texas — Northwestern State's Emily Senatore along with UTRGV's Isabella Burtini, Abbie Bailey and Emilia Compian have won this week's Jersey Mike's Southland Conference weekly soccer awards, the conference office announced Tuesday. Senatore earns recognition for the third time this season as Bailey gets her second nod. Burtini and Compian are both first-time winners.
Co-Offensive Player of the Week: Emily Senatore, Northwestern State – Jr. – F – Oxford, Conn. (Oxford High School)
Senatore moved into a tie for 10th on the program's scoring list, scoring both goals in a 2-1 victory against Southeastern Louisiana, which was previously unbeaten in SLC play. Her 10th goal of the season came in the final 10 minutes to break a 1-1 deadlock to improve the Demons to 2-1-1 in conference play and score her fifth game-winning goal of the season, putting her in a tie for the second-most game-winning goals in the nation.
Co-Offensive Player of the Week: Isabella Burtini – So. – F – Tsawwassen, B.C. (South Delta Secondary School)
Burtini scored pair of game-winning goals to help UTRGV to a 2-0 week in SLC play. She scored her first goal of the season in win over HCU and then scored her second in win over UIW.
Defensive Player of the Week: Abbie Bailey, UTRGV – Gr. – D – Redditch, England (Arrowvale High School)
Bailey anchored a UTRGV defense that recorded two shutouts last week to help to a 2-0 week. She helped the Vaqueros to hold HCU to just four shots on goal in their first SLC win of the season then helped UTRGV hold UIW to four shots on goal in the win on Sunday.
Goalkeeper of the Week: Emilia Compian. UTRGV – Jr. – GK – Mesquite, Texas (West Mesquite High School)
Compian recorded a pair of shutouts to help UTRGV to first two SLC wins. She made three saves against HCU for her third shutout of the season and made four saves against UIW for her fourth shutout of the season.
