Northwestern State's Vernell Atamah named Jersey Mike's Women's Basketball Player of the Week

FRISCO, Texas — Northwestern State Forward Vernell Atamah has earned this week's Jersey Mike's Southland Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week award, the conference office announced Monday. This is her second time winning the honor this season.

Atamah dominated in the Southland Conference Opener for Northwestern State, posting her second consecutive double-double with 22 points and 16 rebounds, leading the Demons to a dominant road win over the reigning regular season Southland champs. She recorded the double-double in the first quarter against the Lions. Atamah's 22-point effort is the sixth 20+-point showing in the eight games so far this season. She leads the SLC in scoring in points in both overall games and SLC games and tops in rebounding in SLC games.
