FRISCO, Texas – UTRGV's Nayla Harris and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Cyan Green win the Southland Conference Women's Track & Field Athletes of the Week awards, respectively, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday. This is Harris' third weekly honor of the season.
Women’s Track Athlete of the Week: Nayla Harris, UTRGV – Sprints - Sr. – Seguin, Texas
Harris wrapped up an undefeated regular season with her fourth win in the 60-meter dash at Texas Tech's Jarvis Scott Invite. She ran a time of 7.17 in the 60m final, defeating runners from Power 4 schools including Tech, Baylor, Wisconsin. Harris also ran a personal best in the 200-meter dash in 24.07 to earn a top 20 finish in a field of 127 runners. Harris is sixth in the nation in the 60m and No. 1 in the South Central Region.
Women’s Field Athlete of the Week: Cyan Green, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi – Thorws - Sr. - Austell, Ga.
Green took home a second-place finish in the weight throw at the Howie Ryan Invitational in Houston, reaching a mark of 19.48m on her fifth throw of the day. This was the best throw of the week in the conference and the third-best overall this season, behind only two of her own from earlier in the year.
