FRISCO, Texas – Northwestern State's Sileena Farrell and McNeese's Jaslyn Russell have earned the Women's Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week awards, respectively, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday.
Women’s Track Athlete of the Week: Sileena Farrell, Northwestern State – Sprints - Sr. – Gravesend, England
Farrell ran a personal-best 11.47 in the 100m dash at the Louisiana Classics, which is the best mark in the Southland so far this season, also fourth in the South Central Region and 18th in the nation. She also led the 4x100 relay team that finished first in the meet and also leads the Southland. The relay time of 44.95 is 25th nationally.
Women’s Field Athlete of the Week: Jaslyn Russell, McNeese – Throws - Sr. – Oakdale, Louisiana
Russell placed first in the shot put with an outdoor personal-best 48-11.75 mark at the Louisiana Classics. She also placed third in the hammer throw (168-5) and eighth in the discus (114-7). She has the best shot put throw in the Southland so far this season and second best mark in the hammer throw.
