FRISCO, Texas – UIW's Anthony Zapata and HCU's Julius Malone have earned the Men's Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week awards, respectively, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday.
Men’s Track Athlete of the Week: Anthony Zapata, UIW – Distance - So. – San Antonio, Texas
Zapata competed in his first 800m of the season, winning the Texas State Charles Austin Invitational in a school record time of 1:50.62 to break a five-year-old school record and set a personal best. He is now ranked #2 in the SLC in the 800. Anthony is ranked #24 in the NCAA West Region.
Men’s Field Athlete of the Week: Julius Malone, HCU– High Jump - Fr. – Cypress, Texas
At the 43rd Rice Victor Lopez Classic, freshman Julius Malone cleared a height of 2.17m/7-1.5 in the high jump, winning the event while also bringing home a new personal best and school record. This jump also currently stands first in the SLC, second in the region, and third in Division I.
